Geeks' perception of the difference between swinging and open marriage
[names changed so my colleagues don’t kill me]
- Dara: I can’t understand this swinging thing. It seems just so weird to me. Why would anyone want to have an open marriage? Just fix your current one!
- Me: Um, I think there’s a difference between swinging and open marriage.
[everyone stares at me]
- Me: I mean, isn’t swinging where you go out as a pair together…
- Pauline: …yeah, and switch partners…
- Me: …and an open marriage is like, well, one person at a time goes out as they wish to see other people.
- Pauline: [nods]
- Me: Clearly, we’re talking synchronous vs. asynchronous.
